Come out this Friday night to Nectars in Burlington to see a wicked show from Mighty Mystic and crew. I saw Mystic this summer perform at the VT Reggae Festival in Johnson (Big up Jose!), and he really put on a great high energy show. I hope to see the massive out there this Friday!

This week’s show is a special tribute show in memory of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We get started in a roots foundation with Jack Ruby and the Black Disciples, taking us right into the Persuasion’s beautiful accapella “Buffalo Soldier”. Other roots artists featured on the show this week include Justin Hinds & The Dominoes, Lacksley Castell, Mikey Ras Starr and Freddie McGregor, among others. New music this week comes from Mykal Rose, Duane Stephenson, Chezidek, and riding the Billie Jean Riddim we hear from Sizzla, Lutan Fyah, and Daddy Rings.
Above all, we concentrate on keeping the show in line with the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and pay our respects to the man who did so much for us as a people. We coninue to do our best to follow in your footsteps, Martin.

Original roots selections this week include tracks from Israel Vibration, Mikey Dread, The Maytones, Sylford Walker, and a special birthday livication from Delroy Wilson. New tunes this week come from Courtney John, Nesbeth, Mighty Mystic, Eddie Neblett, and Shane. Wayne Wonder joins us as the special guest on this week’s edition of Jah Works Radio. During the interview, we discuss his early days living in Rae Town, what it was like cutting his first singles with King Tubby, his new single “If I ever”, and much more. Listen to the interview at about the half hour mark of the show.
Two hot riddims from 2010 (“City Life” and Ghetto Steam”) start out the show this week, with big tunes from Queen Ifrica, Natel, and Ras Myrdak among others. Soon after, the spotlight is on Wayne Wonder as he joins us for an exclusive interview. All the talk about the old days of niceness in the dancehall inspires an old school dancehall set soon after the Wayne Wonder interview, featuring artists like Lloyd Hemmings, Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, and Al Campbell. The last set of the show is straight ROOTS with wicked cuts from Jacob Miller, Prince Irey, Pat Kelly, and Jimmy Cliff ends the show with his beautiful “Sitting in limbo”.
This is the official end of the show at midnight, BUT I decided to go late night style and take it a bit longer. The rest of the show is straight vibes with no talking. The last 45 minutes of the show probably features the most crucial set of the show, but you won’t find the playlist for this. Just check it – trust me!

A lot of reggae fans look at the mid to late 1970s era as the “heyday” of reggae music, especially when speaking of dub reggae. Whether you agree with this or not, that period of time certainly has a very distinct sound and FEEL to it, that for the most part has not been duplicated. I would say Alborosie, with his new album “Dub Clash”, comes as close as anyone to creating a sound reminiscent of this era. Using all vintage effects (Roland Space Echo, Multivox delay, etc.) and very rootsy riddims, many tracks from this album sound like they could be B Side dubs from King Tubby himself. This is not surprising, since Alborosie has ranked the King as one of his greatest musical influences (the intro track is a “Tribute to the King”). That said, Alborosie definitely has his own unique style and really shines on this album as producer, musician (he plays drums, guitar, keyboard, and percussion), and dub engineer. Wicked from start to finish, “Dub Clash” features dubs of some of Alborosie’s popular tunes like “Kingston Town”, “No Cocaine”, “Baltimore” with The Tamlins, as well as some unique dub specials.
“Marcus Dub” was featured on last weeks edition of the Jah Works Radio Show (12/3/10), and more tunes will be heard in upcoming weeks. Keep it locked!
This week’s show starts out heavy in a roots vein, with artists like Dennis Brown, Marcia Griffiths, Culture and The Ethiopians. The vibe really picks up with Black Uhuru’s classic “Fit you haffe fit”, featuring Jr. Reid mashing it on lead vocals. New music selections on this week’s show include Fantan Mojah’s new tune on the Jaguar Riddim, and new songs from Luciano, Sadiki, Alborosie, Nesbeth, and Lutan Fyah. All this rounded out with all time greats from Garnett Silk, Nasio Fontaine, Little John, a very blessed tune from Jamelody to end the show, and much more.
